Joel Scribner and two of his brothers (Abner & Nathaniel) founded the
town of New Albany, IN back in 1813.  In fact, his house still stands.  As
the first framed house in New Albany, it's listed on the national registry
of historic buildings.  Pretty cool, huh?!  It's now a museum that is
Albany from 1813 until 2004, it's pretty easy to trace the family
history.  The Scribner brothers' father, Nathaniel, served as a Captain in
the Duchess County militia (New York) during the Revolutionary War.
Joel's son, William Augustus, married a lady who's family goes all the
way back to the Fuller family who came to America on the Mayflower.
Yeah - definitely pretty cool!  What you see below are pictures of
various members of the Scribner family, their houses and even their
gravestones.  A little morbid, sure, but it's cool that a great-uncle
(descendant of Abner), Benjamin Franklin Scribner, served as a Brigadier
General for the Union Army in the Civil War.  I'm not sure if anyone
served in WWI, but my grandfather, Harvey Edward Scribner, Jr., and his
younger brother, Harold Addison Scribner,  both served in WWII.  I
have a great uncle (Bostock family) who served in Korea and cousins
who have served in the Middle East as well as others, like my brother,
Bill, & some other cousins, who served during peacetime.  Of course
some of us...well...we just served in the Peace Corps.  Not the same
"Corps", but...
