Barack Obama - Presidential Campaign 2008
The week before the Ohio primary, I started volunteering for the Obama campaign at the SEIU office on Riverside
Drive (Riverside/33 just south of 5th Avenue).  I did anything from working the phone banks, cleaning up the kitchen
& making sure the canvassers were all fed, working the front desk to direct everyone to the right place and did some
"Someone SMART in 2008", "Draft Young Republicans", "Have your Republican spayed or neutered" made for a
ones

I took gobs and gobs of pictures and have put them all on my personal website
www.dizzyspinster.com  There's a link
to them off the front page - trust me, it'll be obvious!  Check them out and please drop me a line if you're in some of
them!  It was so great meeting all the people who came in from out of state to help us out - people from Miami, NYC,
LA, Seattle and 4 busloads of folks from the DC area - not to mention all the people who drove in on their own from
Chicago, MI, NJ, KY, IN, PA, SC, NC, WV, VA...  it was great.  The energy and enthusiasm were through the roof!  It's
funny - one lady from WI couldn't make the trip but wanted to help out.  So, she ordered 30 pizzas for us to enjoy on
Saturday.  AWESOME!

Keeping everyone fed was a job and a half, but we made it.  We went through over 150 pizzas on Saturday - not to
mention all the lasagna and other pasta, home-made chile brought in, gobs of snacks, cakes cookies, brownies,
chips and salsa and cases upon cases of soda and water.  Other days brought in BBQ & pulled pork from Hoggy's
and City BBQ  - YUM!  Heck - on Monday, I baked a pecan pie and two loaves of beer bread.  I still can't believe the
pie was gone inside of 5 minutes - literally!  It's such an easy recipe, too!  If you want it, send me an Email - it's my
grandmother's recipe!

It was funny sometimes because I'd thank folks for coming in from out of state to help us and then they'd thank me for
all the food.  (Hey - this is Ohio.  We believe in potlucks!)  It's as if it were turning into a big lovefest or something.
We never got around to a big group hug or anything and no one started singing Puff the Magic Dragon (save that for
my Peace Corps days in Bulgaria!), but that's ok.  We all definitely had a great time hanging out, talking to the folks
in Ohio, discussing issues and why we're supporting Barack Obama for president.  Definitely a great experience!

Don't forget to check out the pictures on my website at

Take care everyone!  Hopefully I'll see some of you again in PA, IN and KY!                        Heather
